Bridges

Why Dental Bridges?

Missing teeth can often affect a person’s ability to eat properly, smile confidently and can even affect speech!

Bridges are crafted carefully to masterfully give the appearance of a tooth emerging from the gum, when in reality it is a false tooth supported on one or both sides of the space.

At Care Dental Platinum, we are interested in giving preventive treatment, first and foremost, but in the event you have a gap to be filled, we are experts in finding the right treatment which fits naturally with the rest of the denture.

How do dental bridges work and which one is right for me?

There are many different bridge designs and our dentists will thoroughly discuss each option with you to help you choose the one that’s right for you. Your dentist will work closely with the ceramist to ensure the optimal shade, shape and set up to provide you with a long lasting, great-looking and fully functioning bridge.

Different types of bridge include:

  • Traditional Fixed Dental Bridge: this is when the supporting teeth are crowned and the synthetic tooth is fused in between them.  This is an excellent design when the abutment teeth need to be reinforced too, or there is a space of more than one missing tooth.

  • Cantilever Dental Bridge: it may seem counter-intuitive, but recent evidence has shown that when only one tooth is missing, one supporting tooth (as opposed to two, one on either side of the space) results in a longer lasting bridge, which is less likely to cause problems in the future.  This bridge design of only one abutment tooth also means less risk of damaging neighbouring teeth unnecessarily.

  • Resin Bonded Dental Bridges: also known as Maryland Dental Bridge or ‘Sticky’ Bridge.  This bridge design was developed to avoid unnecessary damage to the healthy teeth required to be abutments for a false tooth, in order to fill a gap.  The false tooth is bonded to a metal or porcelain ‘wing’, which is attached to the back or non-visible surface of the neighbouring supporting tooth. This often requires minimal or no preparation of tooth structure and therefore maintains the health of the remaining teeth.

  • Implant Supported Dental bridges: these bridges are supported by dental implants instead of teeth.  A dental implant is a metal screw implanted in the jaw that acts as a tooth root.  Implants allow very large spaces where there are missing teeth to be replaced with teeth again.  Even a jaw with no teeth can support dental bridges if multiple implants are placed.

Crowns

Exceptional smiles

Crowns are made to cover your teeth to improve the appearance of your own natural teeth, provide additional strength or as part of a smile design or makeover.  We work closely with our talented ceramists to create exceptional aesthetics according to your own specifications.

Crowns are most often made of dental porcelain and can be made to look so natural they are difficult to tell apart from original teeth.

We use the latest intra-oral scanners and computer-aided smile design technology to ensure you have a good idea of what shape and shade your crowns will have

When do I need a crown?

There can be a number of different reasons why you might need a dental crown. From our experience, and by recommendation from our dentists, patients choose to have dental crowns in one or more of the following situations:

  • To restore severely broken down teeth;
  • To provide additional strength to a weakened tooth (for example a root-filled tooth);
  • To lighten tooth colour in more difficult cases (where teeth whitening is less likely to succeed, for example);
  • To close gaps between teeth;
  • To better align crowded or protruding teeth;
  • Used as part of a Smile Design or Makeover.

Why choose Care Dental Platinum?

At Care Dental Platinum we use the latest intra-oral scanners and computer-aided smile design technology to ensure you have a good idea of what shape and shade your crowns will have before treatment starts. Our patients also benefit from a superior clinical experience thanks to the Enjoyable Dentistry TechniqueTM. This award-winning approach uses air sedation alongside relaxation techniques so that our patients are fully at ease and blissfully unaffected by the treatment they are undergoing.

Extractions

Tooth Extractions are easy with the Enjoyable Dentistry Technique™

Our dentists always aim to preserve your own teeth as much as possible, but in some situations extractions cannot be avoided.

We, at Care Dental Platinum, have embraced a unique approach, the Enjoyable Dentistry Technique™, so you have nothing to fear. The Enjoyable Dentistry Technique™ blends air-sedation with relaxation techniques so our patients can easily and willingly focus their attention on the pleasant feeling of comfort and tranquility rather than the treatment being carried out.  Most of our patients say that time in the dental chair just flies by when in this state.

When are teeth extractions needed?

Teeth extractions are usually the best treatment when the original tooth can’t be repaired due to trauma, disease or crowding. The dentist will always explain all options, risks and advantages before recommending teeth extractions. Commonly our patients are advised to extract their teeth when:

  • They have an infected tooth that is showing no improvement even after repeated attempts at clearing the infection;
  • They have a tooth or root that is severely fractured or broken down and cannot be restored;
  • They require teeth removed for orthodontic purposes;
  • They have an impacted wisdom tooth (a wisdom tooth that is coming out at an abnormal angle) that keeps getting infected or is causing decay in the neighbouring tooth.

What you can expect from us

In short, not only a pain-free (No Dental Anxiety) but also an enjoyable experience! Our dentists are all trained in the latest pain-free techniques to ensure your experience is smooth and calm, and the Enjoyable Dentistry TechniqueTM acts as the best technique to help patients, especially in these circumstances.
