In light of the uncertainty we all face in our daily lives with the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we wanted to write to you directly to keep you informed of the steps The Care Dental Group (Care Dental Platinum and The Care Dental Practice) are taking to ensure we are prepared for all scenarios. Our absolute number one priority is the safety of our patients and the team, no matter what happens.
There is a lot we still don’t know about Coronavirus, but health authorities have been clear that maintaining good hygiene is absolutely critical. We have hand gel at our doors and reception desks for you to use on arrival and when leaving the practice. Please use these or, better yet, wash your hands with soap and water. Our team disinfects thoroughly between each patient as per our usual protocols in accordance with our routine strict cross-infection control procedures. We now have new protocols in place to ensure all communal areas and regularly touched surfaces (door handles, desks) are cleaned every 30 minutes at least with antibacterial products.
All of our staff are well aware of the gravity of the situation so that if any of them have cold/flu-like symptoms, they will not attend work for the required self-isolation period. We have also updated our cross-infection control training as a whole staff-body to include COVID-19 precautions.
FaceTime or phone call emergency appointments and consultations with all of our Dentists will be readily available. If you are experiencing pain, or require urgent attention for a dental or oral health problem, we are happy to connect with you over a video or voice call to offer advice and reassurance. We can also send prescriptions to your home address or liaise with your local pharmacy.
Similarly, we don’t know how long this situation will last, so you don’t have to put your dental goals on hold. We routinely conduct video consultations and in our experience, it’s a great way of having a discussion about your aesthetic or dental health goals, options and getting an idea of what treatment with us would be like, with the potential for us to book in and start treatment when you are ready.
Taking into account the potentially large number of cancellations and low in-person attendance of patients likely to happen, we have arranged for all of our dentists to work from Care Dental Platinum located at 138-140 Hammersmith Road (a few doors away from The Care Dental Practice 118-120 Hammersmith Road). Please rest assured that any appointments booked will remain the same unless we contact you directly. The Care Dental Practice will undergo a deep clean during the time it is closed.
We know that these are especially anxious times, and at Care Dental we specialise in helping anxious patients. If you feel that you would like to combine your treatment with the Enjoyable Dentistry Technique which uses Nitrous Oxide or ‘happy air’ sedation to help you feel calmer, we do this routinely with our treatments and we would be really happy to help you.
At the moment, it is business as usual unless the current advice changes. If you have an appointment booked with us and ARE NOT experiencing cold/flu-like symptoms, then we will be happy to see you as normal.
We know that people’s day-to-day lives are disrupted right now because of Coronavirus, and we’re working hard to ensure we provide the best service to you during this period. If you are unable to make any of your appointments or are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, please call the practice on (practice number) as soon as possible and let a member of our reception team know. Our dentists will be happy to schedule in video calls with you if you are unable to attend the practice. This will limit the care we are able to provide but we will offer our clinical guidance.
Please do not be offended if we do not shake your hand (we love you all), but we want to try and keep contact to a minimum to prevent the potential spread of germs.
Please also expect questions from our reception staff over the phone before you arrive about your general health, whether you have a cough or fever, and your recent travel. We may also be required to take your temperature. We need to all be vigilant and take precautions.
Washing your hands with soap and water regularly for at least 20 seconds is still the best way to reduce the spread of infectious bacteria and viruses.
Remember to use hand cream regularly too as cracked and dry hands are more likely to harbour germs.

If you are well, then see if you can assist anyone directly or indirectly who may be vulnerable, without putting yourself at risk. Self-isolation can be a lonely time, coupled with general feelings of uncertainty, so check in on family and friends via phone or video call.
